While we are still a long way from “automated” work, the reality is that computers are getting better at completing repetitive tasks and automating more and more of the job market.
Take the “human” parts out of retail sales, and you can see how technology is beginning to automate sales processes. “Virtual assistants” like Alexa and Cortana are taking over many simple tasks such as booking flights, and robots are being built to complete tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and doing housework.
While these tasks may initially seem mundane, they are “robotics” in action. They require human interaction, but the “robot” is doing the “human” part of the work.
Similarly, there are countless “AI” jobs that are already being “automated”, including search engine optimization, content creation, social media management, and online advertising.

However, this doesn’t mean that computer science jobs are disappearing. On the contrary, computer science jobs will grow by around 4 percent between 2014 and 2024, as the demand for IT professionals is expected to rise.
While many people think that computer science is just for engineers and scientists, it is actually a very important skill. It is the basis of every single computer program, whether it’s a simple game or a complex operating system.
According to the BLS, the majority of computer science graduates are employed as software developers, network administrators, and information technology professionals.
